The Port Hope railway station in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada is served by Via Rail trains running from Toronto to Kingston, Ottawa and Montreal. The station is unstaffed, but has a heated waiting room, pay telephone, washrooms, free outdoor parking, and wheelchair access to the station.
The station was built by the Grand Trunk Railway in 1856. Service began on October 27, 1856, with the completion of the GTR's Montreal - Toronto main line. The station has been in continuous use since that date. Ownership of the station passed to the Canadian National Railways in 1923, when the GTR was merged into the CNR. Passenger service has been provided by Via Rail since 1978. It was designated as a heritage railway station by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Parks Canada in 1992.
In 2009, Via Rail constructed an additional 20 parking spaces at the station; primarily geared towards the regular commuters that use Via Rail service at the station to access the Greater Toronto area.[1]
